So, I've successfully touched down in the Netherlands.. and after a ridiculously long commute, I actually made it to Amsterdam. I guess that's what you get for riding on a "never-heard-of-it-before" airline that lands in the boondocks of Eindhoven. but hey, I'm on a budget here.
I definitely don't recommend flying into Eindhoven. however, the train ride to Amsterdam does give you some nice views of the countryside. Saw lots of cows.. and sheep... a windmill and an ox. C'est la vie.
I will say that I miss Stockholm, though. Although, the people are downright rude in a way that is (dare I say) worse than New Yorkers.. there is something about that city that is very pleasant. huh? Not to mention those cute Swedish boys. hello!
but it's nice and kind of surreal to be in Amsterdam. tomorrow, I'll go skipping around the canals and such and hopefully won't fall in. but my first impression so far is that it's just okay. I haven't seen that ol' Amsterdam charm like I thought I would but we shall see. Maybe it's because I arrived in the sketchy Centraal station. (yes, two A's). my hostel is right on Vondelpark which is like Central Park.. except one doesn't here the sound of car horns blaring in the background.
I'm friggin hungry and tired but can't sleep due to excitement.
Everyone and their mom rides a bicycle here.. it's quite a serious thing it seems!
I'm almost embarrassed to rent one. bicycle riding seems like a national sport to these Dutch folk.
:)
but when in Rome, do as the Romans.
so in this case.
when in Amsterdam... put on some clogs and ride a friggin' bike!
