well. a lot has happened since I last blogged..
Siena is as absolutely beautiful as people say. Even though not many people have 'said it'. It was the perfect little vacation from vacation.
Had a room to myself. with the TV constantly on Italian MTV. and all the gelato I could possibly eat.
Siena itself is this quiet little medieval town tucked into the Tuscan hills. I even went for a horseback ride outside the castle walls of Siena (literally) and it was deeply relaxing. I recommend.
Then came Rome. Oy. Rome.
The 'ancient' parts of Rome are unbelievable. To see living history like that took me a while to digest. Very beautiful.
The rest of the city and people on the other hand made the visit disappointing.
Romans are rude. The city is dirty. and my hostel was undesirable.
And everything about Rome is chaotic.. but it works!
The driving is insane!
There are very few crosswalks with stop/go signals so in order to get to the other side of the road you just... start walking. and hope that the Italian on a moped will slow down and not run you over!
There are no lines in markets, gelaterias, etc. At first, I thought everyone was "cutting me" in line but no. That's just the way it works.
Free for all! Everywhere!
The system is so backwards (to me) that it actually works.
My definition of Roman chaos.
:)
